If you’re putting together a block party, there are a few things that need to be taken care of in advance.  First, you need to find out whether a permit is required. If you’re holding a party on Long Island for example, West Islip Patch recommends contacting your local city or town hall. In New York City, you’ll have to file with the Mayor’s Street Activity Permit Office which will review the application with your local community board, according to New York Magazine.
